- Dr. Kim is named 2021 Civil Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Georgia Section.
- Dr. Kim received $1.17M research grant from NSF/USDA to develop a cost-effective, scalable, and robust sensing framework to measure soil organic matter (primarily carbon) in salt marshes using smart field sensing, remote sensing technology, edge and cloud computing, and machine learning algorithms to acquire, store, and analyze data from both near surface and below ground.
- Dr. Kim is named 2021 Georgia Engineer of the Year by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers (GSPE). The GSPE’s annual awards honor licensed engineers who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare and humankind. The award winners are selected from five categories: Engineer of the Year in construction, education, government, industry and private practice. The judging committee also designates an overall Engineer of the Year by selecting the highest scoring winner from all of the nominated categories. Kim was named the 2021 Georgia Engineer of the Year for his impactful research, teaching and professional service on his professional profession.
- Iman and Chandler graduated in December 2020. Iman will be teaching at Athens Technical College as faculty in Spring 2021. Congratulations!

- Jason Wright and Dr. Kim’s paper was selected by the editors of Journal of Infrastructures as the cover of the forthcoming issue.

- Kim Lab invited GDOT and FHWA engineers to the UGA campus for the two-day MEPDG Training Workshop (March 2020)
- Our research group presented three posters and one lectern session at the 99th TRB annual meeting in Washington DC. (Jan. 2020)
- Dr. Kim and graduate student Ahmad Abdelmawla attended the 2nd International Conference of Green Sustainable Industry Roads in Egypt. Dr. Kim presented the keynote address at the conference, focusing on the use of recycled materials and nondestructive technology for green road sustainable construction and evaluation. - Dr. Kim has been elected Fellow by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The distinction of ASCE Fellow acknowledges significant contributions to the civil engineering profession and to a career of service to the public. The honor is held by fewer than three percent of ASCE’s 150,000 members worldwide (Sept. 2017)

- Our research group attended the 96th Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting and presented our recent findings from GDOT RP 14-12. Several states showed their interests on fatigue resistance improvement of asphalt concrete mixtures using Corrected Optimum Asphalt Content (COAC) described in GDOT Specification Section 828, SOP 2 (Jan. 2017).

- Johnson, C., Chorzepa, M., Durham, S., Kim, S., “Forensic Investigation of Pavement: Survey of State Practices and Techniques” has been accepted for publication in Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, ASCE (Dec. 2016)
- Dr. Kim presented the research findings of GDOT RP 14-13, “Forensic Investigation of Georgia Pavement” at the 2016 Falling Weight Deflectometer User Group (FWDUG) meeting at San Jose, CA (September, 2016)
- Our lab group and the Transportation Infrastructure Research Group of the University of Georgia College of Engineering’s Secure, Resilient and Sustainable Systems Cluster presented research outcomes at the 2016 Georgia Transportation Institute and Georgia Department of Transportation Research Symposium. The symposium, held Sept. 13 in Atlanta, featured more than 85 posters on transportation-related research and 150 attendees. Dr. Kim presented two posters with the research findings from RP 14-12 and RP 14-13 (September 2016).
